Weather in Maui

Weather wise, you can visit Maui at any time of the year. The weather in Maui is mild, with more rain during the winter season, but still a pretty good weather trade. This island is always green and lush, with two warm seasons: one dryer, April to September, and one rainy, November to March. You can check here one of the best sources of weather info in Hawaii: Island Weather.

If you choose to travel during Maui's rainy season, don't worry too much about the rain though, because the chances are that you will still get enough sunshine to enjoy your Maui vacation. When it is raining, is usually heavier in some locations, like Hana, and most of the time will be over quickly. The specific of this island is the variety of micro-climates (at least seven). As I already mentioned, the key in getting the right weather forecast for Maui , is to take in consideration the area you will vistit. Generally, the daytime temperatures are ranging between 77 in the winter, to 87 degrees in the summer. This almost constant temperature is due to Maui’s location, near equator and ocean surroundings. You can swim anytime in specific locations, and surf most of the time. Hoo’kipa is the most famous surfing beach in the world. Also, besides the Maui weather, there is another factor to consider when planning your Maui vacations: whale watching. If this sounds interesting for you, remember that the season starts in December and is lasting until late April. It is a beautiful show!

It is good to know that if you prefer warmer weather, better go in South Maui area. Don’t rely to much on Maui weather forecast. Expect a bit of rain if you are driving the Road to Hana (and a bit more if this is happening in the winter/spring time).

Overall, when we are asking about the weather in Maui, the answer is not depending only on the season, but also on the area you are in Maui. Upcountry will be always cooler and pleasant, for example. If you are going early in the morning to see the sunrise on the top of Haleakala crater (10,000 ft), then better dress warm, or you will feel sorry. It can be windy and very cold early in the morning.

Maui weather is somehow predictable, in a charming, unpredictable way. Depending on where you are, you know what to expect. Showers followed by rainbows and sunshine in Ka’anapali area, trade winds starting to blow close to noon (perfect timing, so it won’t get too hot), and cooler as soon as you are on a higher altitude, Upcountry Maui. North and East Shore are lush and tropical, while South is warmer and dryer.

All major Maui resorts are west-facing beaches, either on the South side (Wailea & Makena) or West, Ka’anapali, close to the best beaches, protected from the worse rain and wind. If you love sun and higher temperatures, then definitely choose to stay in South Maui. Even if it is a rainy day on the Road to Hana, for sure you will find enough dry areas near Makena and Wailea. With other words, at any time there is some sunny place on the island of Maui, and the rain is short (most of the time), sometimes heavy, then move on, leaving behind a rainbow signature.

Don't use a general weather forecast; rather search for sites such as www.hawaiiweathertoday.com, receive greetings from Aloha Weatherman, and - most important - specific information about the weather in the area you are going to visit.
