Pictures of Hawaiian Flowers
During my trips to Maui, I gathered many gorgeous pictures of Hawaiian flowers. I would love to share at least a few with you!
King Protea is one of my favorites.
"Protea flower was named after the Greek god Proteus, who could change his form at will", because Protea also has many different forms.
Proteas are woody shrubs or trees, with hard and leathery leaves and velvet-like feeling petals. Usually large, they are very unique looking plants, highly decorative (try a tropical bouquet).
Hibiscus is often considered the Queen of the Tropics and is one of the most popular flower in Hawaii.
Trumpet shaped, with five petals, ranging from white to pink, purple, red, yellow, hibiscus are very decorative. This is the reason why is the flower symbol for Hawaii.
Don't forget to try a hibiscus tea. It is caffeine free and has a with a very pleasant fragrance.
Plumeria, or Frangipani, is the symbol of magical Hawaii:
Plumerias are beautiful and very fragrant, especially at night. Native to Mexico & Central America, are growing abundantly in Maui.
Plumeria trees can be really high, up to 30 feet, with a broad canopy. The colors of plumeria flowers are white, pink, red, yellow or even rainbow!
More pictures now, and more to come...
