Best Luau in Maui

Looking for the best luau in Maui? Luaus are a standard fare in the Hawaiian Islands. Typically at a luau, you will see hula dancing, and eat traditional Hawaiian dinners and drinks. However, you should know that not all luaus are the same!

Maui luaus are shows that will include dancing, singing, maybe even fire dancers, and lots of authentic Hawaiian foods. Surely you will try kalua pig, cooked whole in an imu, or underground oven; this will be the center of the food ceremony.

Most commercial luaus will have an ocean view, an outdoor environment, and offer an all-you-can eat buffet. The show will be presented at the same time, in a magical sunset.

Each luau has a unique signature. The choice depends on your personal preference, or maybe your group size. Overall, there may be more then one "best luau in Maui", depending on who is reviewing! There are many places offering discounts for children, while in other places the ticket prices are rather high. It is in your best interest to make an informed decision. Some websites recommend selecting a luau close to the place you are staying; sure, this may be a good idea, but if you are renting a car (and you hopefully are), then driving around will give you more options, and eventually add more flavor to the experience! My personal favorites are the Old Lahaina Luau, and the Feast at Lele, both located in Lahaina. Book both if you can, they both are unique!

Old Lahaina Luau is a traditional, old fashioned Hawaiian luau, perfect even for a larger group. You will not have the fire dancer here, but the show is certainly impressive. The Award winning Old Lahaina Luau must be booked well in advance, weeks, or even months ahead, as it is always sold out, despite it being presented six days a week!

More intimate, in a smaller waterfront location, Feast at Lele is an exquisite culinary experience (table service). “Lele” is the ancient name for Lahaina. This show is essentially a Polynesian tour: Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti and Samoa, and the dinner course will match the area described in the show! Make sure to check the menu first (online) to find out if you are willing to experience exotic foods.

All other luaus are rather alike, most offer a buffet dinner, hula & fire show; the prices are in a similar range. Here are just a few: Sheraton, Kanapali, Hyatt. Almost all hotels in the main resort areas (South Maui, Wailea & Makena and West Maui, Kaanapali Beach) will offer a luau, at least a few days a week, with tickets available anytime.
